The Mauryan dynasty was founded by Chandragupta Maurya n 321 BC. Chanakya was his mentor and guide. Chandragupta overthrew last nanda ruler and occupied his capital Patliputra. He continue to capture territories and gradually moved towards Central India .Then Chandragupta captured the area of Northwest India after Alexander's departure. And also he defeated seleucus nicator Alexander's general in 305 BCE. Chandragupta Maurya establish a big Empire which included important cities like Patliputra, Takshila and Ujjain
