Pre Darwinian evolutionary concepts were Lamarckism and Saltation. Lamarck believed that evolution was linked to use and disuse of organs . He cited the example of long neck of giraffe. Saltation theory was given by Hugo de Vries according to which mutations are responsible for evolution
