the function of the heart is to pump blood all through the body and help the deoxygenated blood get oxygenated by pumping it into the lungs with help of pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein, aorta, vena cavas, and other valves and blood vessels.

the structure is used in an orderly manner where the deoxygenated (used) blood is brought to the heart through the venae cavae (biggest veins) (superior vena cava used to bring deoxygenated blood from upper part of the body and the inferior one for the under area) which drains into the right atrium and then to the right ventricle and from there it is pumped through the pulmonary artery into the lungs. there it gets oxygenated (ready for use blood) and pumped back into the left atrium through pulmonary vein and then to the left ventricle adn finally punped from the aorta (biggest artery) throughout the body with other arteries.

Hope this helps
