India tops in cattle wealth in the world. 15 % of the world’s cattle and 57% of buffaloes are in India . The total number of the cattle in India as per the census of 2003 is 185 million. Then 98 million buffaloes. In spite of this impressive cattle wealth, the share of these animals in the Indians food is rather unimpressive. The world average of protein from animal products is 25 grams per day per human. But the Indian average is only 10 gram. Note it that India is the world’s biggest producer of milk. In 2003-04 850 million ton milk was India’s production. And in egg production India ranks 5th in the world. In 2004-05 the India netted 3.02 million tons of sea fish and 3.5 million tons of inland fish.
