Answer:

The Battle of Plassey was a decisive victory of the British East India Company over the Nawab of Bengal and his French[1] allies on 23 June 1757, under the leadership of Robert Clive which was possible due to the defection of Mir Jafar Ali Khan, who was Siraj-ud-Daulah's commander in chief. The battle helped the Company seize control of Bengal. Over the next hundred years, they seized control of the entire Indian subcontinent and Myanmar - and briefly Afghanistan.

Answer:

The Company was keen to have a puppet ruler in place of Sirajuddaulah so that it can enjoy trade concessions and other privileges.

The Company began to help one of Sirajuddaulah’s rivals to become, Nawab.

The infuriated Nawab ask the Company to stop meddling in political affairs, stop fortification and pay the revenues.

After the negotiation failed the Nawab marched with his soldiers to the English factory at Kassim Bazaar, captured the company officials, disarmed all the Englishmen, and blocked the English ships.

Then he marched to Calcutta to establish control over the company’s fort.

The takeover of Calcutta by Nawab forced the Company in Madras to send forces under the command of Robert Clive and reinforce the Naval fleets.

Various attempts to negotiate with Nawab were futile.

Finally, in 1759 the Company’s army under the command of Robert Clive defeated the Nawab.
