- Kingdom Plantae is broadly classified into the two major divisions – Cryptogams and Phanerogams.
- They are generally classified as “vascular and nonvascular plants” (like algae).
- With the vascular being divided into seed-bearing and spore-bearing.
- Seed bearing plants are further divided into the angiosperms and gymnosperms.
Cryptogams are further divided into the “Thallophytes, Bryophytes, and Pteridophytes”.
- Thallophytes – divided into Algae (eg. Spirogyra, Blue-green algae) and Fungi (eg., mold, lichen)
- Bryophytes – eg, mosses, liverworts.
- Pteridophytes – eg., Fern, horsetail
Phanerogams also called as ‘spermatophytes’ are further divided into Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.
- Gymnosperms – eg., Cycas, Sequoia
- Angiosperms – divided into monocotyledons (eg., banana, lilies, sugarcane) and dicotyledons (sunflower, grapes, tomatoes).
