The deccan plateau extends from river normal to southern tip of peninsular India.

It is the one of the oldest Earth blocks and made up of hard ignious and metamorphosis rocks.

~ The Deccan Plateau lies to the south of the Satpura Range and extends up to Cape Comorin. It is of triangular shape.

~ The plateau gently slopes towards the east.
~ Its height varies from 300 meters to 900 meters above the sea level.

~ It is a triangular landmass that lies to the south of the river Narmada. The Satpura range flanks its broad base in the north while the Mahadev forms its eastern extensions

~ The Deccan Plateau is higher in the west and slopes gently eastwards.

~ The Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats mark the Western and Eastern edges of the Deccan Plateau respectively. The Western Ghats lie parallel to the western coast and Eastern Ghats lie parallel to the eastern coast

~ An extensive area to the north-west of the plateau is covered by black coloured basalt. This part is called Lava or the Deccan Trap.
