Diversification covers two aspects: firstly, diversification of agricultural production and secondly, labor shifts from agriculture to other allies (livestock, poultry, fishing, etc) and non-agriculture. Diversification is necessary because there is a greater risk that farming will be the sole source of livelihoods. Diversification to new areas is needed not only in order to reduce the farming risk but also to provide the rural population with productive, sustainable livelihoods

Explanation:

  • The farming community in India uses the mixed farming system— cattle,  goat, and oats are the most frequent species. Cattle production gives greater income stability, security of food, transport, fuel and family nutrition without interfering with other food production activities. The livestock sector alone offers more than 70 million small-scale, marginal farmers, including landless farmers, alternative livelihood options. Several women are also working in the livestock sector
  • The fishermen consider the body of the water as a "mother" or "supplier." Therefore for the fishing community  an integral and life-giving resource are the water bodies consisting of sea, oceans, rivers, lakes, natural water pools, streams, etc.. In India the development of fishing following the gradual increase of budget allocations and the establishment of new technologies in fishing and aquaculture.
  • Blessed by different soil and climate conditions, India has taken a variety of horticultural crops, like fruits, vegetables, tuber, flores, plants, spices and plants. In addition to addressing job issues, these plants play a vital part in food & nutrition. The period 1991-2003 is also known as an effort to heralding the Golden Revolution, as planned horticultural investment became highly productive in those years and a viable livelihood for the sector. Economic condition of many farmers engaged in horticulture has improved and it has become a means of improving livelihood for many unprivileged classes too.
  • We know that many sectors of the Indian economy have been revolutionized by IT. There is broad consensus that in the 21st century IT will play a vital role in achieving sustainable development and food safety Though IT itself is not a catalyst for change, it can serve as an instrument to unlock our people's creative potential and knowledge. It has also the potential to create jobs in rural areas
