The state government of Rajasthan introduced the Rajasthan State Mahila Commission on 23rd April 1999 in the Vidhan Sabha. It was later passed and was constituted as a statutory body on 15th May 1999.

The main functions of the Rajasthan State Mahila Commission are as follows:

• To analyse and investigate any incident committed against the women and seeking the state intervention in such matters.
• To ensure that the laws are more effective and their proper implementation.
• To see if the existing laws need to be amended.
• To ensure that women are not subjected to any discrimination in both the state public services as well as state public enterprises.
• To take proper steps to improve the financial as well as social condition of women  by suggesting welfare schemes for them and seeking equal opportunities for them from the government.
