The non cooperation movt was adopted on Dec 1920 at the Congress session of Nagpur. under the non cooperation movt Gandhi asked them not to co-operate with Britishers and therefore foreign goods were boycotted, liquor shops picketed and foreign clothes burnt in huge bonfires.

Gandhi called of the movt because:

Gandhi believed in non- violent struggle against the Britishers. But it took a violent turn at chauri chaura in Gorakhpur city' of Uttar pradesh.in 1992. Here the police fired upon a group of demonstraters. The agitated mobster fired police station and burnt 22 policemen alive. This shocked Gandhiji and called a holt to the movt.
