Give an account of the northern plains of India

■ Nothern Plains :

● Nothern Plains are divided on the basis of river system out of which makor ones are : Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra plain.

● They are composed of alluvial soil which was deposited by river's flow in the foothills of Himalayas which lead to formation of this fertile land.

● This lands is highly fertile due to adequate water supply, rich soil cover and favourable climatic conditions which make it ideal for agriculture.

● The Indus along withit tributaries - Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas and Sutlej flows through Punjab and known as Indus Plain.

● The Ganga plains, river Ganga and tributaries flows through major states like - Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and partly West Bengal.

● Assam lies in Brahmaputra plain.

The Northern Indian Plains have been formed due to the depositional activities of the Himalayan Rivers. This is one of the most fertile plains in the world. The plain spread over an area of 7 lakh square km.The Ganga Plains: The Ganga Plains are called so as they are mainly drained by River Ganga and its tributaries
