NORTHERN PLAINS
The northern plains are an important physical division of India. They are situated to the south of the Himalayas. These plains are also known as the Indo-Gangetic Plains. The Northern Plains are formed by the silt deposited by Himalayan rivers and their tributaries.
Classification of NORTHERN PLAINS in India
There are three extensive plain is level and monotonous; these plains featured by some rivers, which is flow through this plain such as
- The Punjab drained by Indus
- The Ganga plain drained by the Ganga and
- The Brahmaputra valley drained by the Brahmaputra
Account of the northern plains of India are given below :-
1) The entire northern plane is made up of Alluvial soil.
2) Two type of alluvial soil bhangar and khadar.
Bhangar -It is made up of old alluvial soil and not much fertile.
Khadar - It is made up of new alluvial soil and very fertile.
3) northern plains formed from Ganga, Indus, Brahmaputra ( and their tributaries).
4) Northern plain is good for agriculture because it has good fertile land, favourable climate condition and abundance (excess) amount of water for farming.
5) It has undue amount of population.
