it hasbeen interplayed by three major river systems indus Ganga and Brahmaputra. it is formed by Alluvial soil it spreads over an area of 700000 square kilometre. with a rich soil combined with adequate water supply and favourable climate, it is agriculturally very productive. the western part of Northern Plains is referred to as Punjab Plains the larger part of this plane lies in Pakistan. it has diverse relief features. according to variations in relief features it can be divided into 4 regions- bhabar terai Bhangar and Khadar.
