Rise of Avadh:
In 1772, the appointed governor of Awadh, Saadat Khan Burhan-ul-Mulk contributed significantly to the rise of Awadh in the 1800s.
Sadaat Khan managed to suppress lawlessness and to control the great zamindars and thereby raise his government's wealth. He was also successful in winning over chieftans and zamindars, carried out fresh revenue settlement and protected the peasants from oppression.
He also preached tolerance by appointing Hindu commanders. Thus, giving rise to a sense of cohesion in Awadh to rebel against the might of the British.
