In Assam leaders like Hem Chandra Boruah,M. Tayeebullah, and Bishnuram Medhi, and Ambikagiri Roy Choudhury assembled at Judges field at Guwahati and expressed their solidarity with Gandhi's salt satyagraha. Leeladhar Barua, then studying at CT college, Calcutta joined the Dandi March. However, at this juncture, the Congress leadership in Assam announced that the province was not ready for a mass movement.

On the other hand, comitted workers like Bishnuram Medhi, Chandra Baruah, Mohammad Tayebullah, Ambikagiri Raychaudhary where actively engaged in organisational worked under seven financial constraint. Under circumstances the Congress in Assam needed to be rejuvenated. The task was accomplished under the new leadership of Bishnuram Medhi, Mahammad Tayebullah, and Ambikagiri Raychoudhury.
