Give an account of various types of oviparous.
Answers
Ovules are of 6 types on basis of bending of body and position of micropyle with respect to funiculus -
1. Orthotropous → The body of the ovules is straight and upright over the funiculus.
- Example → Polygonaceae
2. Anatropous → The most common type of ovule in which the body of the ovule is completely bent over and fused with funiculus along its whole length.
- Example → Solanaceae
3. Hemitropous → Body of the ovule is fused with funiculus halfway and lies at right angle to it.
- Example → Brassicaceae
4. Campylotropous → Body of ovule is bent over itself without affecting nucellus embryo sac.
- Example → Chemopodiaceaes
5. Amphitropous → Both the body as well as embryo sac are curved with hilum, chalaza and micropyle lying near by.
- Example → Some crucifers
6. Circinotropous → Body of ovule over and becomes straight again but funiculus becomes coiled over it.
- Example → Cactaceae
