Mahatma Gandhi, a great freedom fighter, we all know that. He always believed that truth and non-violence can solve problems.

He started satyagraha, his idea of satyagraha emphasised the power of truth andbteh need to search for truth. It suggested that if the cause was true if the struggle was against injustice, then physical force was not at all necessary to fight the oppressor.

He said that it would be more desirable if the oppressor or anyone who commited a mistake, accept it without any violence, because at last that's why he/she has to do.

Without seeking revenge or being aggressive, a satyagrahi could win the battle through non-violence.

There were mainly three satyagraha's successfully organised by Mahatma Gandhi -:

(i) South Africa (before 1915) = He fought against the racist regime.

(ii) Champaran , in Bihar, (1916) = He inspired peasants to struggle against oppressive plantation system .

(iii) Kheda District in Gujrat (1917) = He demanded that the revenue collection be relaxed as peasants could not pay revenue due to crop failure and epidemics.

(iv) Ahmedabad (1918) = He started movement against the cotton mill workers.

Sometimes he failed, but in one or other way something desirable happened. Mahatma Gandhi really did contribute in an excellent way for independence of our country.
