primary treatment:- there is physical removal of particle by sequential filtration and sedimentation
floating debris removed by filtration and grit( soil and small pebbles are removed by sedimentation
during sedimentation solid settle down that form primary sludge and supernatant form effluent
secondary treatment
effluent pass into large aeration tank where it is agitated mechanically and air pumped into it
there is vigorous growth of aerobic microbes into flocs.it is treated till bod is reduced. then effluent pass into settling tank where bacterial flocs sediment. this sediment called activated sludge.
