scientist Rutherford and his student bombarded gold foil with Alpha particles. rutherford's famous Alpha particle scattering experiment is stream of high energy Alpha particles from radioactive source. the source was directed at the thin foil which has the thickness of 100 NM of a gold medal
the thin gold foil had a circular fluorescent zinc sulphate skin around it. Alpha particle heat the screen a tiny flash of light was produced at the point.
the result of the experiment was quite unexpected
it was observed that::
1. most of Alpha particle passed through the gold foil inflicted.
2. a small fraction of the Alpha particle was deflected by small angles
3. very few Alpha particle like one in 20000 bounced back that is why deflected by nearly 180 degree
on the basis of our observation and the conclusion Rutherford proposed the nuclear model of the atom
1. the positive charge and most of the mass of the atom was densely concentrated in the extremely small region this very small portion of the atom was called nucleus by Rutherford
.2. the nucleus is surrounded by electron that move around the nucleus with a very high speed in circular path called orbitals the force model of atom resembles the solar system in which the nuclear plays the role of sun and the electrode that of revolving
3. electrons and nucleus are held Together by electronic forces of attraction
that is the conclusion of rutherford's model of atom.
