 \bold{METAL \: OXIDE}

When a metal reacts with oxygen or does combustion in presence of air it forms metallic oxide. These metalic oxides are basic in nature.

 \bold{ACIDS}

Acids are the substance which have hydrogen ionas the only positive ions.

By acidic properties, if an acid reacts with a base it gives out salt and water.

Since, metal oxide is a base , when will react with acid will give Salt and water.

 Metal \: oxide + Acid \longrightarrow Salt + Water

Lets suppose Metal be Na

When will combust in presence of air will give Sodium oxide Na_2O .Since, oxygen have valency - 2 and sodium have +1 so two sodium atoms will react with oxygen in atmosphere ans will give Sodium oxide.

Let suppose it reacts with Hydrochloric acid (HCl)

It will give out sodium chloride as a salt and water.

 Na_2O + 2HCl \longrightarrow 2NaCl + H_2O
