Acceleration

Definition:

The rate at which an object's velocity changes with respect to time is called acceleration. Accelerations are quantities that are measured in vectors.

Formula:

$\bar{a}=\frac{v-v_{0} }{t}=\frac{dv}{dt}$

$\bar{a}=$ average acceleration

$v=$ final velocity

$v_{0}=$ starting velocity

$t=$ elapsed time

Negative acceleration or retardation:

Negative acceleration always means that the acceleration is in the opposite direction of the body's motion. Negative acceleration (also known as retardation) indicates that the body is slowing down.

Example:

The acceleration of a slowing object is in the opposite direction of its velocity. As a result, this object is moving backwards.
