The Uttaramerur inscriptions revealed details of state. become a member of a Sabha.

The Nadu was responsible for looking after administrative activities like tax collection, judiciary, settling disputes, land recording, etc.

Separate committees of Sabha looked after the day to day work like irrigation, gardens, temples, etc.

In Chola government, rich peasants representing Vellala caste administered the affairs of the Nadus.

The Chola kings often gave land grants to Brahmins.
