When a electric current is passed through the acidified water, it decomposes into hydrogen and oxygen gas.

H2O-------->* H2 + O2.

   Hi !

Decomposition reaction is a chemical reaction in which a single reactant is broken down into two or more products.

Decomposition reaction are of three types :-
1)Electrolysis/electrolytic decomposition( by using electricity)
2) Photolysis(by using sunlight)
3) Thermal decomposition( by using/applying heat)

Eg: of reaction carries out by electricity is(Electrolysis/electrolytic decomposition) :-

              electricity
H₂O -------------------------> H₂ + O₂

Eg: of reaction carried out by applying heat (Thermal decomposition) :-

                 Heat
FeSO₄ ----------------> Fe₂O₃  + SO₂ + SO₃
