According to the principle of diffusion, Carbon dioxide moves from a region of hgher concentration (inside the cell) towards a region of lower concentration (outside the cell). Similarily, oxygen enters the cell by diffusion when the concentration of oxygen inside the cell is low as compared to its surroundings.

An example of diffusion across the plasma membrane is the movement of oxygen.

  • Active molecules can transfer along the cytosol of an active cell, and few molecules often spread through the plasma membrane.
  • As per the theory of diffusion, Carbon dioxide travels from a higher-concentration region which is inside the specific cell to a lower-concentration region, which is outside the cell.
  • Similarly, when the effective concentration of oxygen within the cell is low relative to its surroundings, adequate oxygen typically enters the cell through diffusion.
