Reactions

Explanation:

Electrochemical reaction:

Electrochemical reaction, any process either caused or accompanied by the passage of an electric current and involving in most cases the transfer of electrons between two substances, one a solid and the other a liquid.

Example:

In the cathode: 2H2O + 2e- --> H2 + 2OH- (Water is reduced)

In the anode: 2H2O --> 4H+ + O2 + 4e- (Water is oxidized)

Photochemical reaction:

Photochemical reaction, a chemical reaction initiated by the absorption of energy in the form of light. The consequence of molecules' absorbing light is the creation of transient excited states whose chemical and physical properties differ greatly from the original molecules.

Example: Photosynthesis

Exothermic reaction:

An exothermic reaction is a reaction in which heat is given out.

Example: Combustion of wood or coal to form carbon dioxide and gives off heat.
