Santosh was born in a society where birth of daughter was considered as a curse and that of a son as a blessing. But her family always wanted to have a baby girl. But due to some prevailing customs Santosh's parents had to brought up accordingly but Santosh was so determined that she was not ready to accept anything unreasonable. For instance, when girls of her used to wear traditional dresses, she used to wear shorts. When at the age of 16, she was forced by her parents to get married but she denied it and said that she would never marry if she would not be provided with proper education. She believed that if she would remain determine in her life then everyone around her has to change and not her.
Even as a young girl, Santosh was not ready to accept anything unreasonable. She was not content with her place in traditional way of life and began living life on her own terms from the start. While other girls wore traditional Indian dresses, Santosh used to wear shorts.
