Several food chains exists in nature are interconnected such as green plants are eaten by several plant eaters i.e. herbivores than these herbivores in turn are eaten by several animal eaters.

For example:

  • In terrestrial ecosystem, grass is eaten by deer which is the primary consumer and deer is eaten by tiger which is fall on the secondary consumer.
  • In aquatic ecosystem, aquatic plants are eaten by small fish which is the primary consumer, small fish are eaten by large fish which is the secondary consumer and large fish are eaten by whale which is the tertiary consumer.
