Answer:

"Magnetic Shielding

Magnetic lines stop here.

Magnetic-field lines pass through cardboard, air, and certain other materials, depending on whether they're permeable or nonpermeable. Test different materials to see which gather magnetic lines of force and act as magnetic shields, and which allow magnetic lines of force to pass through them."

Objective: to show that magnetic field can pass through a screen.

Procedure: support a thick art paper over two wooden blocks. Place a bar magnet under the paper. Sprinkle a thin layer of iron filings over the paper and then tap the paper gently. The iron filings arrange themselves in a pattern.

  • The curved lines around the magnet along which iron filings arrange themselves are called magnetic lines of force .
  • Magnetic lines of force show direction of the magnetic field produced due to a magnet .
  • The magnetic lines of force and the magnetic field can pass through a thin sheet of non magnetic substances .

Additonal information

  1. Magnetic field line start at the N-pole and end at the South Pole.
  2. Magnetic field lines do not intersect each other.
  3. The degree of closeness of the field lines depends upon the strength of the magnetic field. Stronger the field, closer are the field lines.
  4. The magnetic field is stronger near the poles, the magnetic field lines are closer near the poles.
