.Physical landscape can broadly be divided into mountains, hills, plateaus, plains, coastal areas etc. It is observed that most of the world population today is concentrated in plains and coasts [activity, living and connectivity incentives]. Which in turns encourages agglomeration.

.The reason for northern plains being densely populated is that it is less complex to conduct a human life in the plains. Which is due to the availability of abundant water, alluvial soil and a moderate climate. This makes pastoralism and agriculture possible and less difficult.

.We have had a few transitions in the way in which we organise societies. From hunter-gatherers to pastoralism to agriculture to industrial revolution and now to the post industrial world.

.To conduct human lives and business profitably we need alluvial soil deposits, perennial water resource base and a robust connectivity network [among others] which are critical to sustain a large population.

.The northern plains possess all the above basic geographic attributes and hence are able to carry a dense population base.
