Ainsworth proposed a classification system of fungi on the basis of characters related to morphology like reproductive behaviours and structures.
He grouped fungi under the Kingdom Mycota along with the slime moulds.
Kingdom Mycota was again divided into two divisions - Myxomycota and Eumycota.
The classification was given by Ainsworth and most of the mycologists accepted it.
