Rivers starting from mountain glaciers generally flow along the downslope, and due to the force of flowing water, the river banks get eroded and form different structures such as meander, oxbow lakes, etc. Also, the rivers carry some amount of eroded soil as silt and deposit it along the further river banks which is called alluvial soil or alluvium, which is suitable for agriculture.
