The reason of why they were not able to communicate in the same way as on earth was that there is no presence of atmosphere on moon and sound requires a medium to travel , so they had to use radio to communicate.

because in earth there is atmosphere where as the space do not have any atmosphere . one thing is that the sound needs medium to propogate . In earth there is air but in universe there is vaccum
