Given :

  • Product of two successive multiple of 10 = 1200

Let :

  • One multiple be 10x
  • 2nd multiple will be 10(x+1)

Solution :

According to question,

=> 10x × 10(x+1) = 1200

=> 100 x(x+1) = 1200

=> x² + x = 1200/100

=> x² + x = 12

=> x² + x - 12 = 0

splitting middle term,

=> x² + (4-3)x -12 = 0

=> x² + 4x - 3x - 12 = 0

=> x(x+4) - 3(x+4) = 0

=> (x+4)(x-3) = 0

either (x+4) = 0 .....or....... (x-3) = 0

either (x = -4) ........or........ ( x = 3 )

therefore

  • when x = -4

10x = 10(-4) = (-40)

10(x+1) = 10(-4+1) = 10(-3) = -30

  • when x = 3

10x = 10(3) = 30

10(x+1) = 10(3+1) = 10(4) = 40

ANSWER : The required two successive multiple of 10 are,

either

  • -40 & -30

or

  • 30 & 40
