To get the expression to add to (4x² - 5xy + 9) to get (- 2x² +3xy - 5), we need to subtract the first expression from the second.

∴ (- 2x² + 3xy - 5) - (4x² - 5xy + 9)

= - 2x² + 3xy - 5 - 4x² + 5xy - 9

= - 6x² + 8xy - 14

So, the answer is - 6x² + 8xy - 14.
