It is third largest ocean in the world.It covers an area of 73,440,000 square km or 28,360,000 square miles.Because of its vastness indian ocean contributes a lot to the world's water loads.It has an estimated volume of 292,131,000.While the rest of world refer it to as "Indian ocean",in ancient texts as Ratnakar ("mines of gems") while hindi tradition refer it to as Hind Mahasagar
