The British rule was oppressive and there was highly economic exploitation. The colonial economic policies affected every class of Indian society. The two grievances of Indian peasantry was :
1. The land revenue taxation was very high and most of the produce was taken from the peasants.
2. The peasants had no ownership of land and were left at the mercy of Zamindars who always extracted illegal dues from peasants and employ them as beggars.
