There were several reasons which led to the disintegration of the Soviet Union. These reasons are as follows:

a. The political and economic institutions of the Soviet Union had become internally weak which led to its disintegration.

b. There came a period when the economy became stagnant. At this time consumer shortages were caused, which contributed to the breakdown of the Union.

c. The existence of the Soviet Union was also affected by the corruption and more because of their inability to take appropriate actions which would lead to the correction of mistakes.

d. At the same time, the Communist party lost democratic value and turned into an authoritarian and bureaucratic party leading to the downfall of the Soviet Union.
