1) They may produce smell during decomposition

2) This produce some harmful gasses such as ammonia. carbondioxide, methane etc...
which can further cause global warming.

Non - biodegradable substances would affect the environment in following ways :---

it takes fertility of the soil eg plastic

it produces harmfull gases like ammonia , so2 etc which is harmfull for health.
