Applications of Pressure through examples :-

• A porter puts a piece of cloth on his head to carry heavy loads. The cloth increases the area of contact between the head and the load. This way, portes reduce he pressure on their head which helps them to carry the load with more ease.

• Walking on snow is difficult However, when use skis the area of contact between our foot and the snow increases. This reduces pressure on the snow and enables us to glide.

• We find it difficult to walk on sand but camels walk easily on it A camel has large padded feet. This increases the area of contact of its feet with the ground thereby reducing the pressure. Thus, the camel is able to walk on sand without sinking in.

• Foundations of buildings are made broader to reduce the pressure on the ground.

• Cutting instruments such as knife have sharp edges Since sharp edges have less area of contact a small force results in a large pressure thus helping us cut objects easily. Similarly, It is easier to hammer sharp nail into a wall.

Applications of pressure:-

1) A syringe consists of a tight-fitting piston which moves in a cylinder, with a nozzle at one end also works with the help pressure.

2)When air is sucked out of a drinking straw ,the air pressure inside it decreases and the atmospheric pressure outside forces the liquid to go inside the straw.

3)A vacuum cleaner has a fan inside that creates a low pressure inside the device . Consequently,air and dirt particles are sucked into the device.

4)Siphon is only a rubber cylinder utilised for exchange fluid with the help of pressure.
