1. Write the types of Tenses.

  • There are three main tenses :
  • 1. Present Tense
  • 2 Past Tense
  • 3 Future Tense

♧ Each tense has four main forms :

▪︎ Present Tense

  • Present Indefinite
  • Present Continuous
  • Present Perfect
  • Present Perfect Continuous

▪︎ Past Tense

2. Define Simple Present Tense.

  • Simple Present Tense / Present Indefinite Tense.

♧ Simple Present Tense is formed by using the first form of the verb.

♧ When this tense is used third person is singular and we add 's' or 'es' to the first form.

♧ To form negative and interrogative sentences we use 'do' or 'does'.

♧ Use of Simple Present Tense:

▪︎To express habitual actions;

  • Ex. He goes out for a morning walk daily.

▪︎ To express general, universal and scientific truths;

  • Ex. The sun rises in the east.
  • Water evaporates when it boils.

▪︎ To express what is actually taking place at the present moment;

  • Ex. See, how it rains !

▪︎ To express the past events in a more vivid way;

  • Ex. Hemu and Akbar face each other on the battlefield.

▪︎ To express running commentaries;

  • Ex. Ajay passes the ball to Ankit and he hits it into the goal.
