Answer:

Blue vitriol undergoes many steps of changes to get black oxide.

Explanation:

i) CuO is obtained by heating copper in air.

   2Cu + O2 -----> 2CuO

 By heating blue vitriol converted into anhydrous copper sulphate which is white in colour.

   CuSO4. 5H2O -----> CuSO4 + 5H2O

Again by heating anhydrous copper sulphate at 720 degree celcius temperature, it is converted into black copper oxide.

 CuSO4 ------> CuO + SO3

To generate black oxide, blue vitriol goes through a series of transformations.

Chemical reaction :

A chemical reaction occurs when one or more compounds, known as reactants, are changed into one or more distinct substances, known as products.

Explanation :

  • CuO is obtained by heating copper in the air.

2Cu + O2 ----- > 2CuO

  • By heating blue vitriol is converted into anhydrous copper sulphate which is white in color.

CuSO4. 5H2O ----- > CuSO4 + 5H2O

  • Anhydrous copper sulphate is transformed into black copper oxide once more by heating it to 720 degrees celsius.

CuSO4 ------ > CuO + SO3
