Beard and moustaches develop in women due to hormonal imbalance when androgens are secreted in more amount. Androgens are secreted from adrenal cortex both in males and females but in a very less amount in females. Principle androgen in males is testosterone which is responsible for development of secondary sexual characters like beard and moustache. When the levels of androgens are high in females, they develop facial hair, beard and moustache.
