Give chemical tests to distinguish between the following pairs of compounds:

Explanation:

(i) We can distinguish between ethanal and propanone using the Fehling solution. When cupric hydroxide is added to ethanol, the aldehyde available in the compound gets oxidized to for an identical acid. As a result of this, cuprous oxide is formed. This is not the case with propanone.

(ii) Iodoform chemical test will help us distinguish between Pentan-2-one and pentan-3-one. When the Iodoform chemical testing is performed, a chemical compound will react only if it is a methyl ketone.
