Give details of three major divisions of Himalayas

The Great Himalayas are young fold mountains that are considered the most loftiest and rugged barrier of the World.

It is divided into 3 main parallel ranges --

1) Himadri--

a) Also called Inner Himalayas and Greater Himalayas, it is the northern most parallel range of the Himalayas.
b) The average height of the mountain peaks here is 6,000 m
c) The core of the Himadri contains granite and the folds of the peaks are asymmetrical in nature.
d) The peaks here are snow bound all throughout the year and all the glaciers are located in Himadri.

2) Himachal -

a) Also called lesser Himalayas, this part lies to the south of Himadri.
b) The average height of peaks here is between 3,700 m - 4,500m.
c) The mountains are composed of highly compressed and altered rocks.
d) This range contains a number of valleys such as Kullu valley, Kangra valley,etc
e) Ranges such as Pir Panjal range that is the longest and Dhaula Char range lie here.

3) Shiwalik --

a) Also called Outer Himalayas, it is the outermost and southern most parallel range of Himalayas.
b) The average height of peaks found here lies between 900m - 1100m.
c) The hills are composed of sediments eroded by rivers that originate from Himadri.The valleys are composed of alluvium and gravel
d) The valley called Duns are found here.Dehra Dun, Kotli Dun, Patli Dun are great examples.
