An Ocean is a huge area of the sea. A lake is an area of freshwater. A river is a freshwater system which conveys rainfall from higher ground downhill to the sea. There may or may not be a lake or lakes in the river system. Most, though not all, river systems end when they arrive at the sea. The common denominator in all three things is water, but that doesn't necessarily make them similar.

The rivers that drain northwards into the Arctic Ocean:

  • The rivers that drain northwards into the Arctic Ocean freeze in winters and are used as ways for rising sleighs in winters and boats in summers.
  • These rivers are perennial and usually are formed because of melting of glaciers.
  • These rivers form deltas.

The rivers that drain eastwards into the Pacific Ocean:

  • The rivers that drain eastwards into the 'Pacific Ocean' form estuaries and are not perennial rivers.
  • These rivers do not 'freeze' in the winter months and the water from these rivers is used for irrigation purposes.
