Roasting : It is the process of converting an ores to oxide by strongly heating it in the presence of excess of air . ... Calcination : It is the process of converting an ores to oxide by strongly heating it in limited air . For example carbonate ores are converted into the oxide by heating in the absence of air.

Roasting - when the sulphide ores are converted into oxides by heating strongly in the presence of excess air. It's know as roasting.

Calcination - when the carbonate ores are changed into oxides by heating strongly in limited Air. it's called calcination.
