Answer: The property of a liquid due to which it exerts an upward force (upthrust) on a body immersed partially or wholly in it, is called buoyancy. Archimedes' principle is a result of buoyancy or the upthrust exerted by the liquid. The apparent loss in weight is equal to the upthrust on the body.
