Difference between metals and non metals are as follows :

Metals :

  • They can easily expel an electron.
  • They form ionic compounds
  • Their oxides are having basic nature
  • Their ionization enthalpies are low.
  • Their electron affinity is less negative.
  • Their electron negativily is less.
  • Their reducing power is high.
  • They cannot easily receive an electron.

Non - metals :

  • They cannot easily expel an electron.
  • They form covalent compounds
  • Their oxides are having acidic nature
  • Their ionization enthalpies are high.
  • Their electron affinity is highly negative.
  • Their electron negativily is more.
  • Their reducing power is low.
  • They can easily receive an electron.
