The language (common language) played an important role for the rise of nationalism in Europe. There are number of evidences which shows the role of language in rise of nationalism. One among them is imposition of Russian language in Poland by the Russia.

After occupying Poland, the Russia forced the polish language out of schools and imposed Russian language every where. It created great resentment among the people of Poland and they turned against Russia.They used language as a tool of national resistance and Polish came to be seen as symbol of freedom struggle against the Russian occupation.
