Gem dihalides have halogens attached to the same carbon atom. For e.g.- CH3-CH2-CHCl2. 1,1- dichloropropane
On the other hand vicinal dihalides have halogens attached to the adjacent carbon atoms. For e.g.- CH3-CHCl-CH2Cl. 1,2-dichloropropane. These are structural isomers
